Saint-Nectaire
Saint-Nectaire is an exceptional holiday resort lying in the middle of the picturesque Couze Chambon valley, at an altitude of some 700 metres, in the foothills of the Sancy mountain range.
From good food to health spas, Saint-Nectaire invites you to explore the treasures revealed by unspoilt nature. This characterful town combines heritage and art de vivre.
The town lies amid lakes and volcanoes and you cannot fail to marvel at the scenery as you wander the many paths that criss-cross the region.
On this land that should be visited slowly and leisurely, with the Monts Dore as backdrop, Saint-Nectaire shares its name and its illustriousness with a cheese served at the table of kings. Saint-Nectaire is a cheese for gourmets and has a distinctive hazelnut taste arising from the rich flora that the Salers and Montbéliard cows graze on. To be eaten unsparingly!
Saint-Nectaire church dominates the upper part of the town, crowning Mont Cornadore. It is said to be one of the finest Romanesque churches in Auvergne. The 12C building made from trachyte lava and porous tufa appeals because it is in perfect harmony with the surprising scenery offered by the Chain of Puys and Sancy range.
Saint-Nectaire was established as a thermal spa in 1806. Today’s visitor can still appreciate the elegance and charm of yesteryear through the architecture and decoration of the hotels, casino, parks and gardens. Now a fun spa area has been added to the thermal baths and has a pool for everyone to enjoy, fitted out with water sprays, whirlpool baths, sauna, steam rooms and Jacuzzi!
Come and discover a fascinating land where nature has succeeded in shaping the elements to create an outstanding site!
